Faqs

Answers to common questions about therapy, psychology services, fees, and what to expect.

What is a Psychologist?

A psychologist is trained to understand human behaviour, thoughts, emotions, and patterns. In therapy, psychologists work with individuals to explore these areas, identify challenges, and provide evidence-based strategies for change. At Core Life Psychology, I assess, formulate, and treat a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns.

How Can a Psychologist Help?

People seek therapy for many reasons — from anxiety and depression to relationship difficulties, trauma, or feeling stuck. My role is to help you explore what’s going on beneath the surface, gain clarity, and develop tools for emotional well-being. I offer compassionate, personalised care using proven therapeutic approaches.

How Does Therapy Work?

Therapy is a collaborative, supportive process. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, identify patterns, and work toward meaningful change. Every person’s journey is unique — sometimes therapy provides quick insights; at other times, deeper, longer-term work is needed to shift long-standing patterns.

What Should I Expect in the First Session?

The first session is about getting to know you — your challenges, goals, and hopes for therapy. We’ll discuss what brings you in, your history, and how we might work together. I aim to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel safe to begin.

How Do I Find the Right Psychologist?

The right fit matters. Therapy often works best when you feel comfortable and supported. Sometimes connection builds over a few sessions; if something feels off, I encourage open conversation so we can explore options together. Your therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and constructive.

Is Therapy for Me?

Absolutely — therapy can benefit anyone. Whether you’re facing significant challenges or simply want to grow, reflect, or build resilience, therapy offers support. People from all backgrounds, identities, and life stages are welcome at Core Life Psychology.

How Much Does Therapy Cost?

My standard fee is $240 per 50-minute session. This reflects my clinical experience and training and is below the APS recommended rate. ➡ Medicare rebates of $145.25 per session are available with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP (up to 10 sessions per year).

How Does Medicare Work for Therapy?

Your GP can create a Mental Health Care Plan, which gives access to Medicare rebates for 10 sessions per calendar year. You’ll receive an initial 6 sessions, with a GP review required for the remaining 4. I provide invoices to help you claim your rebate easily.

How Do I Book a Session?

You can contact me directly via phone or email, or [book online here] (insert your booking link). I aim to offer timely appointments and am happy to answer any questions before your first session.

Is Everything I Say Confidential?

Yes. What you share is confidential, within legal and ethical guidelines. I’ll explain limits to confidentiality (e.g. safety concerns) at your first session so you feel informed.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people benefit from a few sessions focused on specific goals, while others engage in longer-term therapy for deeper change. We’ll work together to determine what’s best for you.
