Founder & Lead Therapist

Dr Damon Mitchell, PhD, PGDipClPsyc

A grounded, relational approach to therapy I'm a clinical psychologist who works with adults seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and the emotional and relational patterns that shape their lives. My approach is steady, collaborative, and emotionally attuned. I’m interested in what shapes us — the experiences, relationships, and internal responses that influence how we feel, cope, and connect.

What draws me to this work For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the inner world — the places where emotions, relationships, and meaning intersect. I’m interested in the parts of us that are often unseen: the protective patterns we develop, the longings we carry, and the ways we learn to navigate closeness, vulnerability, and connection. Therapy offers a rare opportunity for these deeper layers to be explored with care, curiosity, and genuine connection. It’s a privilege to sit with people in this way.

How I work My work is grounded in psychodynamic and experiential approaches, including AEDP. This means we pay attention not only to what you think, but also to how you experience emotions, relationships, and yourself in the present moment. I aim to create a calm, contained space where things can slow down enough for your inner world to be felt and understood. We work at a pace that feels manageable, and you won’t be left alone with what feels overwhelming.

At the heart of my work is the belief that people are not broken. Many of the patterns that bring us to therapy once developed for understandable reasons. When those patterns are met with curiosity, compassion, and emotional understanding rather than judgement, new ways of experiencing ourselves and relating to others become possible.

What matters to me in therapy I value depth, steadiness, and genuine connection. I believe lasting change develops through safety, emotional experience, and genuine connection rather than pressure or performance. I’m interested in helping people understand themselves more fully, soften longstanding patterns, and develop a more compassionate, integrated relationship with their emotional world. Over time, this kind of work can support greater emotional freedom, self‑trust, and connection — both internally and in relationships.

My background I’m a registered clinical psychologist with training in psychodynamic therapy, experiential approaches, and trauma‑informed practice. I’ve worked across private practice, community settings, and university clinics, and I continue to engage in ongoing supervision and professional development to deepen my work.

Outside the therapy room I’m active and enjoy the rhythm and energy of city life. I spend a lot of time walking and exploring different neighbourhoods and parts of Melbourne — movement and being outdoors help me feel grounded and clear. I like the mix of movement, people, and energy, balanced with quieter moments of writing, reflection, and time in nature. I enjoy walking and exploring different parts of Melbourne. Movement, writing, time in nature, and moments of quiet reflection help me feel grounded and connected.
